A DNS lookup tool asks the internet's Domain Name System which records a domain has: where its website points, which servers receive its email, which name servers host it and more. Ours queries public resolvers from Cloudflare and Google, so you see what visitors see.
It is the quickest way to check that a domain points to the right hosting, that email will be delivered (MX, SPF and DKIM records), and that a recent change has gone live. It also helps when moving a website between hosts.
A and AAAA (IPv4 and IPv6 addresses), CNAME (aliases), MX (mail servers), NS (name servers), TXT (SPF, DKIM, DMARC and verification codes), SOA (zone settings) and CAA (which certificate authorities can issue SSL).
Resolvers cache records for the time set in each record's TTL. After a change, older answers can be served until that time runs out, usually minutes but sometimes up to 24 to 48 hours for name server changes.
